Aminals and Erf Day

By the way, I saw DisneyNature's Earth last Wednesday in celebration of Earth Day! It was great! But there was a lot of sadness behind it too. That's just how the world works, I guess. They tried to make it happy again but the sadness kind of just resonated within me. I really wish animals would continue to flourish rather than dying out as the world changes. Sighs. There was sort of an animal show before the movie where they brought out four very cool animals and talked about them. I was a little bummed that they didn't walk down the aisles with the animals, but that is sort of dangerous and I'm sure the animals wouldn't like it all too much. I saw an alligator, a lynx, a fox, and a porcupine., all very awesome and cute. I loved the Arctic Fox! Took pictures too. Will post soon. I was lucky to get tickets for it because it was nearly sold out. In case you hadn't heard, for every ticket sold in the first week of its opening, Disney is going to plant a tree in the Brazilian rainforest. Yay! Also, Blankey and I got popcorn in these reusable buckets. On top of it was this sticker that told you all the things you could use your bucket for. Per their request, I am going to use it as a sewing kit. But occasionally, I will be using it as a drum as well. I know they're trying to be "green" and all, but they could have at least some post-consumer plastic in their buckets. So much for saving the world, Disney. I guess in the end, it really is about money and budgets. Bleh.

Hope everyone had a funzo Earth Day, though this is a week late. I biked to work because it was a really nice day. It amazed me how fast I got there...a little more than 10 minutes! It takes me almost three times that amount of time to get there sometimes by bus! See what I'm saying? I had no intention of biking back, since it was uphill and my legs are unaccustomed to much labor, but I decided to just do it and be healthy because I need to lose some boyfriend chubs to get my mom off my back. Ever notice how nothing seems to please moms? If you get skinny, they worry that you're not eating, but the moment you gain a little weight, they tell you to eat less and to PLEASE take a stroll after dinner and to eat more fruit. Yargh.

Anywho, I feel I have been a horrible environmentalist. I really need to start getting more active about it again. We should love the earth every day!

ANNNNDD reminder to all UCLA students, go get your grad tickets on MyUCLA now now now! I just ordered mine and it's such bull that they make you pay for extra ones, but whatevs, I guess. This is probably my last graduation (not planning on doing anymore schooling!!) so gotta celebrate!

Freedom to move

My baby's at the shop and will be ready to ride very soon! :) I'm so excited! I just need a helmet to protect my noggin. Still haven't been able to find the perfect one because my head is neither gigantor nor super small. The setbacks of having a somewhat normal sized head. Ugh. I am REALLY starting to consider just buying a white or cream colored helmet and designing it myself. I already have some ideas in mind.

As much as I love public transportation (I really don't sometimes, though), people gotta have their independence. I don't like sitting and waiting for the bus for like 20 minutes if I just happened to miss the last one, causing me very often to be late to things, nor do I enjoy the fact that it takes twice as long for me to get somewhere than it would in a car. I especially dislike dealing with mean bus drivers and moody commuters and weird smells and being crammed into the sardine can that is the bus. I normally don't mind the bus ride, given that I am able to procure a seat, because I can do work on there, but I have been so tired lately that I just fall asleep or zone out when I get on. With my Ciao Ciao, I will be able to move at my own pace and go to places directly, rather than having to walk several blocks from a bus stop. Wee!

Speaking of buses though, I have about five rides before the number of rides that I have taken with my pass equals out to what I paid for it. I'm pretty excited! I really like my TAP card because it's customized with my picture and name since it's a student one and I don't have to carry around that $1.25 and panic when I'm short a quarter. Now I can save that panic for getting to and from work!

Weeeeeekend

Minus the wee would be meaningless. Did a lot of cool stuff this weekend! Had another spa day at Glen Ivy in Corona, this time with my sister and her friend. All our senses were assaulted in the steam room. Seriously, it's not as cool as it seems in the movies. It really is just a room full of steam! I don't know what I was expecting. Anywho, we relaxed in the jacuzzis and mineral baths, played in the mud in Club Mud, got painted green in the Grotto, the works! My sister enjoyed a nice body treatment and for the rest of the day she kept sniffing her skin because she was covered in this delicious orange blossom shea butter.

Saturday was an all day event. Tom and I tried to find me some gear for my Ciao Ciao but all we ended up with was a lock for it and the loss of some hope. We then joined up with my sister's birthday troupe as they hit up Santa Monica. We got some cupcakes at this gallery thing at Fred Segal. The gallery thing was lame, but the red velvet cupcakes were yum! Then we went to Fig, this fancy wine and cheese kinda place. Wine was yummy. I had the Gewurtz. Cheese, not so much. I made the mistake of ordering this thing that I thought would be like a PB&J sandwich, only the B stood for bleu, as in the cheese. It was gross. Then we moseyed (for Tom and me, more like raced) on over to Copa d'Oro, which was awesome. They have a Depression menu for happy hour and it's a lot of classic cocktails that cost but five buckaroos! I had a Daiquiri, which was a good drink but it's not quite for me. I actually liked Tom's Wade Eight (I never like his drinks) and my sister's was yummy but it disappointed her because it wasn't made to her standards...the Clover somethin'. The Jack Rose was tasty. I think there's some kind of apple cider in it. They also had these amazing Nutella sandwiches. Mmm. Last on the list was Golden State. I had an Ommegang Rouge, which is a sour cherry beer. Yum yum. There were gourmet burgers and lots of fried food. I had sweet potato fries. Very tasty but tiny portions. The entree is what it's all about though. They don't hold back on those. There was a beer battered cod I was meaning to try but I was just too full. The gelato was tempting too but I knew my stomach would be upset with me and the world if I put that in there.

The next day, Tom and I went to Blue Jam on Melrose for brunch. 'Twas dericious. Lots of typical Hollywood people in the area, but the service was nice and not like them. Walked down the street a little and then headed to my place so we could go to the L.A. Book Festival! Our welcoming party consisted of a swarm of bees that may have originated from SAC or a tree. We made a BEE-line toward the other direction (get it? snort.) and I would randomly say aloud to people, "You're going the wrong way! There's killer bees!" Don't think it was very effective. After we got away, we were able to enjoy the billions of tents of books. Tom found some good stuff at the Taschen and Ayn Rand Institute tents while I walked away with a book called Crobots from (I think?) the HeritageSource tent. It's a book about crocheting robots how to crochet robots (I realized the ambiguity of what I previously said just now)! Two things I like and can combine into one hobby! YES!

Upon returning to Tom's and marveling over our neato finds, we prepared Ciao Ciao for a ride around the block. It was my first time really riding it and not just pedaling it around and man, that baby can fly. I don't even know how fast I went but I got scared and stopped it. It was the last time we saw it run. :( It needs some major tuning up and stuff so it's going to the shop tomorrow. Not much luck on finding the perfect helmet. I really want one that will match my bike and am beginning to warm up to the idea of just getting a cream or pearl helmet and putting orange decals on there myself. If anyone wants to get me this little guy, that would be nice of you. :P

By the way, I love visitors! Tamara and Wendy stopped by to see me today (er, Monday). We just sat and caught up and chatted away. Then we got Pinkberry! I was so sad though, because apparently the one that is but two blocks from me will be no more come May 10 because the rent is too high. Wahhh. For a month, I will have nowhere to go when I am sad or just need a little pick-me-up at the price of $4.95. Cry.

My new (old) Ciao Ciao Ciao!

I am officially a bad mamma jamma. So I've been creepily looking at this moped outside my class and one day I took a picture of it (as you can see). I noticed on one side of it that it said Vespa and the side I took a picture of said Ciao, so I Googled that and learned a little about them. Then I typed it into CraigsList, thinking they would not possibly have anything like that on there but they did! It was just for looksies but I sent the link to Tom and he loved it and said I should get it. I wasn't really going to but the more I thought about it, the more appealing and cool it seemed so I e-mailed the guy on Thursday, we met with him that same day and tried it out and then I bought it. It's a sexy orange vintage Vespa Piaggio Ciao! Another impulse purchase... I think any new eletronic devices will have to wait a little while but this is so totally worth it! Pictures of my new bike and perhaps a formal introduction coming soon!

Feeling touristy

hollywood!

Blankey recently changed schedules so rather than getting off work at 7, he gets off at 6. It's strange what a difference an hour makes. Last Wednesday, we already finished dinner by the time we would normally start so we were trying to figure out what to do with the rest of our night. He had the genius idea of doing something cheesy like going to the wax museum on Hollywood Blvd...which is exactly what we did. We went to the wax museum to walk amongst the famouses. I met all kinds of creepy celebs. It was great! And we didn't even have to go to the scary side. Then we went to the Guinness Book of World Records Museum. There was so much learning to do there. Information overload. Though I think some of the stuff may have been a little outdated, but records are being broken all the time. I don't blame them. It was still a really interesting place. I love going on adventures with ze Thomas Robert. :]

Snort

So I was looking at old drafts that I never completed and the following was one of them. These were some search engine results that led to my blog that I thought were really funny:

I saw my aunt pooping
goodbye my homless lover
lost dog in fat lady's butt crack

PervART

It did not occur to me how perverted artists are until Tom pointed out all the manjunk in several art pieces at LACMA last weekend. I chose one to write about for my art history paper that hopefully did not have some kind of secret dirty message.

No mad

Sometimes I feel unwelcome everywhere.

Hair today, gone...nope still here

I no longer have "short hair" for it is now considered "medium length," whatever that means. I can tie it up in a bun and junks but it's at an awkward length. I hate in-betweens. When I have short hair or long hair, I usually don't have to (or just choose not to) do anything in the morning to prep it but at its current stage, it just looks really bad most of the time so I opt to tie it up, rather than fret over it and wasting my time, because I'm not trying to impress anyone with my locks, yet I don't want my straw-like 'do gettin' all cuh-razy. I don't really like it but the boyfriend seems to like running his hands through it. I never thought I'd like having short hair so much after my traumatizing experience in sixth grade, but I miss it; you have not seen the last of short-haired Jennio! Perhaps I will grow it until I can donate it again and then away it goes! One thing is for certain, though, I needs to cut my bangs because they look like fangs on my face. Fang bangs. Haha. I'm very jealous of those who can achieve the side sweep with little effort (my sistah). What am I doing wrong?

P.S. Avoiding homework. Teehee.

Airborne!

Got my Airborne settlement check this past weekend. Pretty sweet. I never believed it to be a cold cure...I don't know who would think that when all it is is a bunch of vitamins and minerals, but whatever. I once had a manager who told me when I was deathly sick that he just took a bunch of Airborne and his cold was gone in a day, so I decided to try it per his suggestion, figuring it couldn't hurt, and then it gave me a bloody nose. My body gets upset with me when I overdose on vitamins. There is such a thing as being too healthy.
